Counterfeit Giant electric bicycles to be made in Hung Yen

More than 300 counterfeit units of Taiwan Giant – Momentum electric bicycles were detected at Detech Motor based in Hung Yen.

On March 19^th, the Market Management Department in collaboration with Hung Yen Department of Economic Security have discovered and detained over 300 counterfeit Giant – Momentum electric bicycles.

337 electric bicycles were found at the factory of Detech Motor at Di Su commune, My Hao district, Hung Yen province with an estimated total value of 3 billion VND. They were seized and put into sealed storage. The words “Momentum” and “Giant” were found on the saddle and the number plate – just as in bicycles from the famous manufacturers in Taiwan.

According to initial investment of management agencies, the price of a Momentum electric bicycle from Detech Motor to dealers was at 2.5 million who later sold them at 11 million.

Heads of the Market Management Department also stated that on March 20^th, the Department will issue a document market management agencies from all around the country to deploy operational measure in coordination with other management agencies to check and deal with counterfeit electric bicycles nationwide, especially with counterfeit Giant – Momentum units. If such units are found, they will be immediately seized and handled according to law while violating facilities will be openly public to mass media.

Electric bicycles and motorbikes on the market are mainly from China.

Market inspection results have shown that electric bicycles and motorbikes on the market came from 2 sources: vehicles assembled and produced domestically and imported vehicles. In particular, vehicles assembled domestically often use components from China and Taiwan and their prices are much lower compared to CBU units. Besides genuine products made by Yamaha and Honda plants in China, many other products were counterfeited and label violated.

As directed by the Government, in 2014, drastic measures to ensure order and traffic safety will be implemented, together with strict management of electric bicycles and motorbikes production and businesses. The Minister of Industry and Trade has order the agencies, especially market management agencies, to administer this type of item with the Detech Motor case an example.
