This morning (January 4th), Nhat Tan bridge and Vo Nguyen Giap street which connects Nhat Tan with Noi Bai airport have both been traffic-opened. The bridge will be a new symbol for Hanoi transport.
Nhat Tan bridge and the 2 roads at its ends receive a total investment of 89,943 billion yen (13.626 billion BND) and have a total length of 8,9km. The bridge itself is 3,7km long with the main bridge across the Red River stretches for 1,5km. This cable-stayed bridge has 5 towers symbolizing Hanoi’s 5 gates which are always opened to welcome international friends to Hanoi.
Nhat Tan is one of the few cable-stayed bridges in the world. In addition to cable-stayed technologies, other advanced technologies that have never been applied in Vietnam can also be found on the bridge, such as the steel box anchor on the towers or a monitoring system with modern equipments used to track cable tension and reinforced steel’s stress and so on.
The road connecting Nhat Tan bridge with Noi Bai airport also connects the Nhat Tan-Noi Bai route with the Bac Thang Long-Noi Bai route, thus reducing the amount of traffic on the latter route. The project receives a total investment of 6.742 billion VND and is 12,1km long.
The Nhat Tan bridge and the 2 roads that lead to it have been constructed since 2009 March under the design, construction and supervision of prime Japanese contractor and a number of Vietnam contractors. The project’s design consultant and supervisor is the joint venture Chodai-NE and TEDI. The project is divided into 3 construction packages.
The design consultant of Vo Nguyen Giap street is TEDI while its supervisors are Stanley Associates (from the US) and CTI (Japan). The project is divided into 5 construction packages.
