GM Vietnam to have new general director from August

GM Vietnam just issued its latest press release which stated that its parent company – General Motors, has decided to alter some leadership positions in Vietnam starting from August 1st.

Accordingly, Mr. Wail A. Farghaly, currently the General Director of GM Vietnam, will assume the same position at GM Thailand and Chevrolet Sales Thailand. He will be replaced by Mr. Sumito Ishii – the current GM Japan general director. Before joining GM in 1996, Mr. Ishii worked at Toyota Motor and was responsible for dealer supports as well as product launches. From 1998 to 2003, he undertook the development program of GM North America as well as developed strategic cooperation between GM and other carmakers. Since his return to Japan in 2003, Mr. Ishii assumed many different leading positions there, including his latest position as the General Director of GM Japan.

Meanwhile, Mr. Farghaly will succeed Mr. Marcos Purty to serve as General Director of GM Thailand and Chevrolet Sales Thailand, whose headquarter situated at Bangkok. Mr. Purty will return to the US and take up his new positions as the Director of GM’s Lansing Delta Township Plant.

Mr. Stefan Jacoby, Executive Vice President and Chairman of GM International stated “We appreciate the achievements of Mr. Wail in Vietnam. He has shown outstanding leadership and contributed greatly to the success of GM Vietnam in recent years. Mr. Ishii will bring to his new position a solid foundation after 2 decades of working in the automotive industry especially at the highest leadership level in US and Japan. His experience and knowledge will surely help GM Vietnam to proceed even further…”

General Motors Vietnam is a member of GM SEA, with its headquarter and facilities in the country situate on Ngoc Hoi street, Tu Hiep commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi. Current capacity is 30.000 units/year. Its sales and service network now feature 18 dealers located in major cities nationwide.
