Hanoi People’s Committee has assigned the company VPT to carry out experimental investment on a public bike system in the area right in the 2^nd quarter of 2014.

The Vice Chairman of the city’s People Committee Nguyen Van Khoi has assigned the Department of Transportation to guide VPT Urban Trees Green Environment Joint Stock Company (VPT) to carry out experimental implementation of a public bike system right in the 2^nd quarter of 2014. By the end of 2014, the company will have to review and evaluate the model of the system and report back to the People’s Committee and the Department of Transportation.

At the request of Mr Khoi, VPT had to invest in an environmentally friendly and quality bike system and operate the system effectively to meet people’s demand thus help in limiting personal vehicles and traffic congestion.

Hanoi will launch an experimental public bike system.

Previously, as requested by the Department of Transportation, the Prime Minister has also issued documents requesting ministries, sectors and People’s Committee of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city, Hai Phong, Da Nang and Can Tho to identify targets of personal vehicles reduction and at the same time research for suitable methods and models to promote socialization, such as bus and traffic cameras..

The Prime Minister also asked the local to co-operate with the Ministry of Transportation to build, approve and implement a project to strengthen public transportation in combination with controlled use of personal vehicles; monitor and control vehicles effectively in the city centre including the experimental public bike system.
