Proposal on reducing clearance time of imported cars

The Ministry of Finance has requested the Ministry of Transport to find solutions to reduce clearance time of imported cars.

Currently, registration agencies take 20-30 days to check the quality of a lot of imported cars, which may even take up to 2-3 months in some localities. Long clearance time leads to high cost for storage. For example, in Thanh Hoa, cost for storage in a day is 3 million, while that number in Ha Tinh and Can Tho may even reach 5 or 6 million.

To reduce clearance time, the Ministry of Finance has requested the Ministry of Transport to shorten the list of imported goods subject to specialized inspection. On the other hand, the Ministry of Transport also needs to set up more quality inspection center at localities that have international seaport.

Ford Vietnam’s representative proposes Vietnam to approve the quality of imported car from the US, Germany and Japan – countries that have world-leading auto standards.

Reportedly, clearance time of imported cars is often 20 – 30 days and can even reach 2 – 3 months in some localities.
